Who watched at least one of the three films knows that the animals of John Wick are really the protagonist of the show. Everybody are so amazed of the John Wick character that everyone else in the movie results little more than extras, but not them. Actually in the third chapter of the saga, the John Wick’s doggo turn from tender presences into violent beasts.
Beware of dogs… and of the owner
In John Wick 3 – Parabellum, legends of martial art movies such as Mark Dacascos, Tiger Hu Chen, Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman were really outclassed by John’s puppies. The couple of Belgian Malinois dogs were incredibly talented, capable to perform a big amount of fight sequences as the best martial art movie stars. And if the performance of Keanu suffered a bit the confrontation with such incredible fight cast, resulting a little fake watched with professional stunt eyes. The doggo’s fight scenes look quite the opposite: very realistics and making us concerning about the poor stuntmen that had to deal with such jaws.
In the movie the two Belgian Malinois are Sofia’s dogs, a lethal and beautiful killer. Playing “the female John Wick” is the star Halle Berry, pretty comfortable in her action role and truly one with her dogs. In fact, Halle Berry trained with the shepherds for several weeks, after befriending them. The bond is authentic and the stunts are really unbelievable, take a look by yourself below.
When horses are going wild
But the two Belgian Malinois shepherds (that in the reality were five different dogs), were not the only animals participating in a fight scene in the movie. The memorable fighting sequence of John Wick using horses to defeat other killers is pretty unique. For this stunt also, the animal-actor train is the key of the success. This scene in particular reminds me of the movies Tom Yum Goong (The Protector) and Ong Bak 2, in which Tony Jaa manage to do part of his stunts on real elephants… Just incredible. So let’s see the animals of John Wick going wild!
As we saw animals are not only a cute presence in movies, but they really can be the formidable stars of the fight scenes. The work is pretty long and not every breed is keen to perform such difficult stunts, however when the train of the animal is successful the results are just amazing. Or quoting a friend of mine: “animals are just better than human in every aspect”.
