Ride on a legend past. The director Larry Yang recalls the past of the most shining star of the martial art movie industry in a funny and touching movie.
Time passes
Let’s be honest, the years catch up with everybody… Even for Jackie, who despite his age managed always to deliver the perfect mix of humor and martial arts. In the last 20 years we have seen a change of direction concerning the style and the genre of Jackie Chan movies, with less action and much more drama. The characters of Jackie become sadder and in some cases even nostalgic, notable examples are: The Karate Kid and The Foreigner. Frankly through thousands of American action movies, Chinese historic movie productions and animation doubles, the true Jackie Chan is more visible in these very few drama. In Ride on we have a taste of all the thousand faces of Jackie.
The thousand faces of Jackie
Ride on could be watched through the eyes of a person who don’t know Jackie, in this case the person will watch a movie about an old stuntman, Lao Luo and his horse. In the other case then, if the person will watch the movie through the eyes of a Jackie Chan’s fan, he/she will see a very different movie… A movie about a boy, who was introduced into the world of the martial arts and with his personality was capable to make the world smile, specially when he was fighting or risking his life. Again, animals doing stunts (or in this case more computer graphic animating the horse) is always a winning move and telling the truth Red Hare fits perfectly with Jackie humor.
Ride on is capable to show to the world who Jackie Chan is today, recalling what he did in the past and inspiring new generation of stuntmen and martial artists, who right now are writing the history of the martial arts in the movies and beyond. If you choose to watch this movie through the eyes of fan, maybe you could see that the Jackie of the present and the Jackie of the past are both represented, one through Lao Luo and the other by the horse Red Hare.
Ride on a legend past. A movie about the Jackie of today, a living legend who never stop trying to get us excited. What is you favorite Jackie Chan’s movie? What Jackie Chan’s movie are you waiting for?
