The martial artists of the moment vs a predator

The martial artists of the moment vs a predator, no is not some fantasy/action cartoon or some fanmade video on youtube neither, it is a movie, Jiu Jitsu. Assembling an incredible cast of martial artist stars, the director Dimitri Logothetis shot one of the best martial art movies of the 2020, now available on Netflix (at least in the US).

Martial Artists Assemble

If you missed most of the martial art movies of the 2020, do not worry, Jiu Jitsu could fill alone all your gaps… Why? Well, because this movie counts the participation of some of the best martial artists of the moment: Alain Moussi, Tony Jaa, Juju Chan, Frank Grillo, Marrese Crump, Rick Yune and believe it or not, Nicolas Cage! This incredible cast of “Jiu Jitsu” heroes will join forces to defeat a hostile warrior race of alien, who every six years try to invade Earth. Here’s a clip of the Jiu Jitsu squad proving their skills against a group of soldiers:

Tony “the Iron Man” Jaa

Yes, I know, the plot is original but in the end it does not show up so appealing, and in fact, the movie reviews are not so good. What is really unassailable instead, it is the action. The movie stars use every single second at their disposal to show their art. Let’s start with Tony Jaa, in the role of Keung, a skilled fighter who try to defend the protagonist Jake from the alien attacks. In this movie, Tony Jaa returns to kick asses and he really makes my day, have a look:

Nic Cage is a Ronin

The unexpected decision of the movie director to include Nicolas Cage in a cast full of martial artists is pretty strange and honestly it does not add any significant property. The only reason to add such a famous actor that I can imagine it is to extend the audience from the martial art niche to the action movie aficionados. But like the film critic says, it simply does not work, and personally I wish I had seen more fighting sequences of Marrese Crump or Juju Chan in this movie.

Captain Moussi

By the way the star of the show is the talented Alain Moussi, the heir of Van Damme’s Kickboxer series. The skills of Moussi are unquestioned, his Kickboxing,  Jujutsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu background are evident. In Jiu Jitsu movie he plays the protagonist Jake Barnes, who seems to be the chosen fighter to defeat the alien invader. Here’s the final battle:

Logothetis-Moussi a long-standing couple

It is a few days now that Netflix is streaming Jiu Jitsu, personally I found this streaming portal a good solution to watch martial art movies and I hope that they will consider to expand the martial art genre library. Unfortunately the couple Logothetis-Moussi is not so lucky in terms of popularity like I mentioned in the nominees for the best martial art movie of the 2020. I remember that also Kickboxer: Vengaence and Kickboxer: Retaliation had poor reviews despite the unbelievable casts. Hopefully the next movie would be the right one and why not the next Kickboxer title!

What do you think of the martial artists of the moment vs a predator? Would you like to see another Logothetis-Moussi movie?
