A modern 47 Ronin history. The 47 Ronin are back, or at least with their spirit in this modern interpretation of Netflix. Let’s review this original new concept of one of the most legendary historical event happened in Japan.
Reviving the legend
After the American fantasy action 47 Ronin, the interest in a sequel were expressed very soon. Blade of the 47 Ronin pretends to be his legitimate sequel, set in the modern-day world, where a group of Samurai clans exist in complete secrecy. The story starring a group of modern samurai which have to protect a young girl, who is believed to be last heir of the 47 Ronin heritage.
Old glories and new surprises
The movie cast is the strongest element of the movie, considering martial art stars like Mark Dacascos, Dustin Nguyen, Mike Moh and Yoshi Sudarso. Despite this talented actors, the protagonists of the action scenes are mainly a bunch of young girls, who have not such experience, but demonstrate to really know what they are doing.
Anna Akana, Teresa Ting and Chikako Fukuyama seem really to know how to hold a katana, the fighting scenes have a really high quality and the style of it results at the same time elegant and lethal. My impression watching the movie was not to watch the sequel of 47 Ronin, but a completely new movie, shot for the young generation of martial arts movie’s passionate.
The martial artists we want to see
Seeing Mark Dacascos in action is of course always very pleased, he is following a great time and I hope he will continue deliver such performances. It is also a pleasure to see again Mike Moh, who is demonstrating once more to be one of the leading characters of the martial art movies right now, finger cross to see him again as Ryu. And of course talking about great martial artist, we can’t really wait to see Yoshi Sudarso finally as protagonist in a big action movie!
