A black and white trek to the land of the dead. No, I am not talking about the next horror movie, but I am introducing the new videogame of the publisher Devolver Digital: Trek to Yomi. So let’s dive into this samurai world of darkness.
Between movie and game
Trek to Yomi is a side-scrolling action game set in the Edo period, that follows the vengeance story of a young samurai named Hiroki. The gameplay is heavily inspired by the classic samurai movies from the 1950s. Chanbara (Japanese sword fight) movies at that time known his major exponent: Akira Kurosawa and his monochrome samurai. Trek to Yomi allows you to play in one of these old movies and diving into the show, distancing itself completely from the awarded Ghost of Tsushima.
100% Japan
The single-player game ranges between historical Japan accuracy and Shinto mythology, with proper environmental elements and supernatural creatures, assuring a very unique experience. In fact the traditional soundtrack and the voice actors of the game help you to immerse yourself even more in the Edo period and playing as a true samurai.
While trekking
Even if the game should last five hours, you will be able to fight a lot of enemies with your katana, experimenting true samurai duels. During the trek however, you will use new weapons like bow and arrows, shuriken and even an ozutsu (cannons). You will discover shrines that will help you restoring your health and characters that will guide you to your goal, in a original cinematic experience.
