Puroresu
Japanese pro wrestling “Puroresu” was always very acclaimed. Less spectacular than Lucha Libre and more technical than the American pro wrestling, Puroresu was known around the world for their full contact strikes and martial art techniques, that give to this art a legitimate combat sport title. Despite legendary names like Giant Baba, Tiger Mask and Antonio Inoki, in the 1980’s, also women were protagonists among the japanese pro wrestlers. Chigusa Nagayo and Lioness Asuka, known as the “Crush Gals”, who as a tag team achieved a level of success in Japan comparable as Hulk Hogan in the USA. The nightmare of this young girls duo was a certain “Heel”… Dump Matsumoto.

The Queen of Villains tells the story of Kaoru Matsumoto, raised with her sister in poverty by an irregular worker mother, who had to deal with an unemployed alcoholic husband. The young Matsumoto failed the audition for the All Japan Women’s Pro-Wrestling two times before she was admitted. Without any prior knowledge of martial arts and any athletic skill, Matsumoto embodied perfectly the Puroresu “fighting spirit” just with her devotion to this sport, that giver her the strength to overcome her poor life status.
Becoming pro wrestler stars
The comedian Yuriyan Retriever was capable to transform herself into the queen of villains with several years of training. Also Erika Karata and Ayame Goriki, respectively Nagayo Chigusa and Lioness Asuka in the series, trained a lot to achieve a style of combat which could resemblance as much as possible the fighting techniques of the “Crush Gals”.
