The real Shogun

The real Shogun. The American miniseries of the homonym novel finally seats the Japanese star Hiroyuki Sanada on his legitimate international throne.

The Shogun

Which better occasion to celebrate “The Twilight Samurai” with an historical drama miniseries. For once I will promote a show where the action is hidden by the drama, I will make an exception in order to celebrate Hiroyuki Sanada, the best japanese martial artist in the cinematic industry right now! The star Hiroyuki Sanada is well known in his country, but the public audience hardly recognize him, even with almost 60 years of television and cinema! With the American miniseries Shogun, finally Sanada is recognizable worldwide as the great actor that has always been. Shogun is the TV adaptation of the homonymous 1975 novel written by James Clavell, following the story of a powerful damyo, a skilled lady and a English sailor in the Edo period. Lord Yoshii Toranaga is played by Hiroyuki Sanada, in a role that seems to be written especially for him.

More acting than fighting

Sensei Sanada got used us to short/astonishing performances, thinking about his cinematic appearance in Mortal Kombat and John Wick: Chapter 4. With Shogun, Sanada focus on his acting talent, showing only in a few moments his skilled martial arts, for this time as the protagonist of a critically acclaimed miniseries.

After the death of Sonny Chiba, Hiroyuki Sanada is the leading authority for the Japanese martial art in the cinematic industry, and as it has always done, he is showing the most traditional and violent face of Japan in the best way.

The real Shogun is here, did you have the chance to see it? Personally I can’t wait to see Sanada again as Scorpion in Mortal Kombat 2!
