Once and Always Power Rangers. Let’s celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers with a movie!
Morphin’ Time
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of both the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the Power Rangers franchise, Hasbro Entertainment One produced a movie distributed by Netflix with the very first original group of Power Rangers. Unfortunately, seeing all the original cast reunite is a pipe dream, due the death of Thuy Trang and Jason David Frank, respectively the actress who portrayed the yellow ranger Trini Kwan and the famous Tommy Oliver aka the green ranger. But Austin St. John (the red ranger) and Amy JO Johnson (the pink ranger) also didn’t take part to the movie…
No matter what
The Power Rangers: Once and Always movie does what it can to masquerade the absence of more than half the first Power Ranger family, focusing the story on Billy Cranston (the blue ranger) and Zack Taylor (the black ranger), portrayed respectively by David Yost and Walter Emanuel Jones. To take responsibility and replace the absence of the main actors: the young Charlie Kersh, inheriting the Sabertooth Tiger morpher, Steve Cardenas retuning as the second red ranger and Catherine Sutherland retuning as well as the second pink ranger.
Fighting like before
After 30 years the mood is still there, taking the example of Cobra Kai series and building a bridge to the past. In certain situations it really works, especially with the helms on, fighting Rita Repulsa and her Putties army, the old style of the Power Rangers is hitting strong. But it is really difficult to ignore the weak plot and the absence of most of the original cast… The hope is to see another reboot, captained by the new yellow ranger maybe, assembling a new generation of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and updating the style.
